Come check out four of Chicago's up and coming original bands in The Venue's Chicago Music Showcase. Stellar Road, Governor Switch, Land of Atlantis, and Groovatron have all been staples of the Chicago music scene for the past decade. Also joining in the mix is popular mixer, DJ Marcos Campos, who will be spinning his sounds in between each of the band's sets.
Stellar Road has had a number of incarnations since brothers Jack and Mike Daly and good friend, Justin Griffin, began playing guitar and writing songs together ten years ago. It was not long before the trio developed into the nucleus of one of the most popular bands in Chicago. Over the past five years, Stellar Road has played hundreds of shows across the United States, from the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles to local giant, Soldier Field in Chicago. Also has played alongside the likes of rock legends Bon Jovi, Nickelback and The Goo Goo Dolls.
In the current musical climate of cut and packaged entertainers designed for quick consumption, Governor Switch (formerly John Wasem Band) is like a welcoming home-cooked meal spread across a Southern table. The folk-infused ballads take the elegant guitar picking, lyrical poetry and “everyman” sensibility found in traditional Southern genres and elevate them with the rawness found only within real talent.
Groovatron will rock you, plain and simple. While total schizophrenia and blatant attention deficit disorder might seem like unwanted ailments in modern times, Groovatron embraces these so called disorders to create a form of music that is part funk, part progressive, and all rock. Powered by the thumping bass of Tony Qualls, the rhythmic intensity of Andy Dumaresq and Steve Pesich, the wailing guitars of Marc Quagliara and Nick Ferrer, and the soulful, sultry saxophone of Tony McCullough, this six-headed beast is sure to satisfy the most savage of musical lusts andentertain even the most discerning of fans.
Whereas the idea of a “new sound” might seem like wishful thinking to the modern day music connoisseur, that concept is exactly what keeps Land of Atlantis fans coming back for more. LOA tastefully mixes intricate, progressive song writing with simple hooks and melodies, all the while infusing a healthy dose of improvisation and virtuosity. With their open-minded approach to creating music, each member adds their own distinct flavor to the recipe.
Setting his mark in Northwest Indiana, Marcos Campos has trademarked his sound to Progressive House and Vocalistic Trance creating a unique atmosphere unlike any other DJ in area. Marcos' is working with various musicians to produce music with live elements along with digital sampling. You can catch him playing in Indiana on a weekly basis at venues such as Corkers in Highland, Indiana & Zodiac in Crown Point, Indiana. |
